The CLOCK Tower

I walked out of home the usual time. Seems like it rained last night. Everything was wet, the roads, and trees. Everything smelled of rain. It was heavenly!!! I turned right and reached the junction which has the flyover to one side of it. The fly over looked like a stairway to the clouds. Something very tantalizing about it. I stopped to wonder what the day has got in store for me.

Slowly I walked to the park; it looked lovely today splashed with patches of green. Suddenly I became conscious of my debacle with changu mangu. I ran a cautious glance on the park before I entered. Everything seemed okay. Changu Mangu may be decided to stay in hiding for some time. Was I Glad!!!

Just a few of their kith and kin were around looking disinterested in my activity except for one who I felt was watching me closely. Anyways Damn Changu Mangu ---- I am not writing about them today.

I began walking around the cricket ground where the usual bunch was warming up for the game. Fifteen Minutes into the routine, I heard the forced laughter of the senior citizen laughter club. Some thing about this group got to me. Generally I would break out into laughter hearing them laugh like hyenas ( they sound like humans apparently) in captivity but today what interested me was the ritual that followed hence. I stopped and sat in the nearby bench turned off the music to keep my ears and eyes open for the events that unfold. What was so interesting??

First was the place where the group was doing their routine. It was south end of the park and from where I was sitting I could see a clock tower between the trees. The scene was idyllic.

Secondly, the ritual .YES!! A proper war dance like ritual. After the hyena laughter routine, these men indulged in a act which reminded me of the Hippies!! With all due respect to the Hippies. Well the ritual now, they moved around in a circle, every alternate man in the moving forward together telling each other something.

Then they kinda split into three groups and there was one group acting like a bunch of youngsters hifying and thumping their chests, the other like small children running around prancing and jumping , while the third group stood motionless. It seemed like each of them were being guided by the clock tower. On the right side were the men all jolly and jumping acting like kids and youngsters. On the left were the old motionless men. Was it the effect of the clock tower?? I wondered how many changes it would have witnessed in the people, the place, the park. I brushed aside the strange thought and watched them leave the park. I can sometimes get sentimental about certain things. I wanted the clock tower thought to stay. So after the group left, I walked into the particular spot , to stretch and a secret urge to know if the clock tower has got anything in store for me. I laughed at my stupidity and decided to walk away from there after a few minutes.

As I reached the footpath, LO and behold!! I feel a fresh whiff of air smelling of Brut /Axe I don’t know. I wonder if it was the clock tower’s way of saying “MOVE ON Dearie!!” and So I shall coz if I don’t I wouldn’t be able to catch a glimpse of the subject in question.
To be contined…!!
